• Cajun Power Products

Ok, I like Cajun Power products. They are priced well and I am trying to try all of the products and see which ones balance value, ease of preparation, quality and overall opinion. I will note that I am following the product directions and am not 'adding' or 'fixing' any spices as i go. I want to try them 'as is' for a fair review.
I am going to review them from my perspective, my family as in did they eat seconds, or their opinions, and the same for friends. My wife does not like spicy food, 2 of my three children do. My children are 9 year old girls and a 10 year old boy. My wife does not like to cook so I am always on the quest to help her make dinner for the family that is nutritious as well as easy to prepare.
These also make good 'Hurricane' preparedness food as you have a nice meal, and not a big mess! I love to cook, and generally, given the time I will make things from scratch unless noted with a rating of 5.

    The Products:
They make 'Cajun' style foodstuffs ranging from spaghetti, gumbo, etouffee, sauce piquant, syrup etc.

I found Fresh Pickins Market in Baton Rouge carries the complete line of Cajun Power Products. For a short period of time the Oak Point Grocery by my home carried the spaghetti, then unexplainably stopped. I was familiar with and like the Garlic Sauce so i tried and like the spaghetti sauce. The products are cheaper in the store than online, and that makes me happy!

    The Ratings:
On a scale of 1-5 where 1 is OK and 5 is excellent. Zero is reserved for unserviceable/inedible.
    1. OK but not something I personally cared for as a dish, no problem with the product, i would not make the dish on my own either.
    2. Good But I prefer to make my own.
    3. Great I intend to add it to regular family meal rotation.
    4. Excellent As good as I can make, without the hassle of making it.
    5. Outstanding I have no intention of cooking from scratch to try and beat it.

    Makin' Chili
    Score: MCInfantry: 3 Family: 3 Friends: N/A

Preparation: I used 1lb lean beef and followed the directions. The Chili Sauce was well-flavored with chili powder and a little spicy. I think this is an excellent chili base, and for future use, I would 'spice' it up with other personal touches.

    Chicken & Sausage Gumbo
    Score: MCInfantry: 4 Family: 4 Friends: N/A

Preparation: I followed the directions, and instead of cooking the chicken, I buy and use a 'rotisserie' chicken (pre-ccoked) at the grocery store. I also used Andouille sausage that i cut up and brown in a skillet. I thought it was very good. We generally eat all of it. I used the jar of Seafood Gumbo, as the Chicken is not available to me yet.

    Hot Tamale Pie Kit
    Score: MCInfantry: 5 Family: 5 Friends: N/A

Preparation: Takes a little over an hour to make, following the directions with most of the time coming from baking, not preparation. My wife and I love Hot Tamale's and now the kids do to. It was excellent! It is spicy and very authentic tasting. In the future I will freeze three and cook three. So you can actually consider the meal cost 1/2 (you are only eating 1/2)

The Spaghetti sauce is very good with a Cajun flair.

Smothered Chicken and Gravy is excellent.
I used a pre-cooked rotisserie chicken from the grocery. Just remove the meat, put it in a pot with the stuff from the jar, heat, and eat. The instructions call for some water. I put the water in the jar and slosh it around to help get the last little bit of sauce from the jar.

BTW, the Cajun Power Mango & Pineapple Salsa With Habanero is excellent, too.

We had the Etouffee with Shrimp. Excellent. It is one of those things that tastes as good or better the next day as leftovers, too.
